The 2024 Pinot Noir Le Caprice comes from coastal vineyards, and the nose reflects some of the steepest blocks out there, with notes of brambly earth, compact wild spice, pine oils, and wild compact berries. From an east-facing vineyard surrounded by redwood trees, it pours a bright red color and is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and wild raspberry fruit on the palate. It initially reveals a clean fruitiness, but sneaky savory undertones gain depth and refined complexity as it sits on the palate, and it has a long finish. Drink over the coming 15 years.
95pts Wine Advocate
I tasted the 2024 Pinot Noir Le Caprice from barrel shortly before it was due to be bottled. It has expressive aromas of red and black cherry, citrus peel, Angostura bitters, mossy bark, licorice and well-integrated oak spice—it offers tremendous spiciness as it blossoms in the glass. The full-bodied palate is soft and spicy at this stage with grainy tannins, bright acidity and a long finish. It seems to be coming along a bit more slowly than the other Pinots from 2024.
94pts Vinous
The 2024 Pinot Noir Le Caprice is a blend from some of the highest, steepest and most exposed blocks on the estate, conditions that naturally create notable stress in the vineyard. Rose petal, bright red-toned fruit, spice and white pepper race across the palate. Le Caprice is the most reticent of the three estate Pinots, a wine that shows a bit more focus and energy than in earlier years. Give this a bit of time to soften.
92pts Wine Spectator
Raspberry and black cherry notes are steeped in feel. Flavors of mulling spices and black tea, plus a hint of singed blood orange peel, fill in through the toasty finish. Shy on energy but generous in feel.
Winemaker Notes
Scintillating hues of garnet and ruby flash in the glass with an aromatic fanfare of black cherry, dried rose petals, black raspberry, wild strawberries and red plum with hints of sandalwood and baking spices in the 2024 'Le Caprice‘ Pinot Noir. Representing the steepest vineyard blocks, seamless, plush and effortless, this is the most fruit-driven of the Seaview Estate wines. The 2024 'Le Caprice‘ delivers with a balanced, elegant and classic expression of Pinot noir.
