The 2000 Brut Vintage Cuvée de Réserve Vinothèque is another gorgeous wine from Pol Roger's new Vinothèque program. It offers up scents of lemon confit, marzipan, burnt sugar, spice and baked apple tart. Rich and creamy, the 2000 has aged impeccably.
Tasting Notes
The nose expresses notes of dried fruits, toasted brioche, and honey, enriched with touches of sweet spices and vanilla. On the palate, this champagne is both powerful and balanced, with flavors of pear, hazelnut, and a hint of caramel. The finish, of exceptional length, is marked by beautiful minerality.
About the Bubbles
To mark the 175th anniversary and the inauguration of the new winery, Pol Roger is presenting its new project: the Vinothèque.
“Disgorged at the same time as the first release of these wines, the bottles were then returned to mature further in the deepest Pol Roger cellars, situated 33m below street level and at a constant 9C throughout the year without being moved before their final release from the cellars. With these wines, our intention is to offer a fascinating new expression, combining power and freshness in perfect harmony. And we felt that there was simply no better place and conditions for completing this extra-aging than where they come from.” — Damien Cambres, Cellar Master
About the House
Pol Roger is perhaps best known as Winston Churchill's favourite Champagne. The house remains family-owned and has a reputation for producing champagnes of finesse and elegance which age very well. Pol Roger Brut Rèserve Non-Vintage, made from equal parts of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, is consistently one of the very best on the market, largely due to the high proportion of aged reserve wines in the blend. Pol Roger vintage wines, made from at least 60% Pinot Noir and up to 40% Chardonnay, are soft and fruit-driven in youth but, after ten years or so, develop great complexity and finesse. The Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, launched in 1984 and made from a secret blend, is a Champagne of exquisite finesse and balance and one that rivals the very best of the region.
