Smoke and struck flint introduce this spicy, intensely mineral dry Riesling sourced from volcanic soils. It's gorgeously steely but packed with zesty grapefruit, lime and lemon flavors as well. Slim in profile yet penetrating on the palate, it's a wine that should improve well through 2028 and hold further. ANNA LEE C. IIJIMA

Sourced exclusively from steep, grand-cru site, this offers an array of flowers and a supple, smoothly, glazed palate with very attractive saltiness. Smoothly honed, this really holds a fresh, long finish. Super pure. Drink now.

From the volcanic rocks of the Stromberg and the Felsenberg, Fröhlich's 2018 Riesling Trocken Vulkangestein opens with an intense yet pure, refined and flinty bouquet of ripe fruits intermixed with the noble aroma of crushed stones and dried herbs—utterly complex but airy and fine like perfume. Vital and intense on the first attack, this is a juicy, intense and elegant, persistently mineral dry Riesling with raisin flavors on the long, taut and aromatic, quite powerful but structured finish. This 2018 Riesling from volcanic rocks is still terribly young but absolutely impressive in its tension, perfectly clear juice and mineral grip. You'd waste its talents if you drink this wine too young. Rating: 91+
In the glass a straw yellow color with aromas of a very metal nose, pebbly with some flowers. Taste dry, clean and delicately juicy, thoroughly cool, stony and earthy notes, fruit pome, green, slightly acidic herbs, salt is added to the end, body firm with very precise and direct, deep, thin stature one touch sweetness extract, good finish.
A good companion for pasta, pork, spicy food, poultry, cured meat, seafood.
