95pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A blend of 70% Grenache with 15% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, the 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Mourre des Perdrix is richer and riper than the traditional cuvée, with fewer floral-garrigue notes but more raspberries and power. Full-bodied, creamy textured, lush and long, it's a terrific effort from a difficult vintage-in fact, it's a terrific wine, period.

94pts Wine Spectator

A smoldering, broad-shouldered version, with impressive stature for the vintage. Black plum and smoked incense wrap around a spine of cast iron, with pepper and charred apple wood in the backdrop. Firm yet finely sculpted tannins shore up the finish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2025 through 2035. 400 cases made.

92pts Vinous

The delicious 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix bursts with vivid spice box, ripe red fruits, licorice and a peppery twist. Medium-bodied and juicy, the 2021 is packed with plenty of substance yet super refreshing. A savory finale rounds it all up. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

91pts Jeb Dunnuck

Ripe strawberries, savory cherries, sandalwood, and Provençal garrigue notes all emerge from the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Mourre Des Perdrix, another beautiful 2021 offering medium-bodied richness, some chalky minerality, fine tannins, and a supple, expansive mouthfeel. It will shine for 8-10 years, although I love it today.

Winery Notes

It was in 1912 that Eugene Maret bought Domaine de la Charbonniere as a gift for his wife who was a native of Chateauneuf and the daughter of a winemaker. Their son Fernand Maret inherited a part of the Domaine and enlarged it upon the birth of his son Michel.

Today Michel Maret had over 16 hectares of vineyards located in the high plateaux of Les Brusquieres and La Crau both covered with the famous cailloux roulets and at Mourre des Perdix, sandy soil dotted with larger stones.

The passion and know-how of the winemaker, handpicking of the fruit, and careful sorting at the winery enable Michel Maret to optimize all the promise of a great terrior.

The vinification at the Domaine follows the classic style: no destemming, and three weeks fermentation in stainless steel vats, after which the wine is aged in large oak fourdes for 12-18 months.
